Topic: For those with an IF diagnosis...........

Are you the only person in your family with fertility problems? I always believed I was the only one in my family, before me there is NO history of IF. Every woman in my family has children and no one ever had any trouble. My baby sister is 27 and just got married in August. Now she's trying to get pregnant without any luck. I think she has PCOS. She's got all the physical symptoms I have and she's having very long cycles, right now she's at 60+ days without a period. I always said she'd be on her 2nd baby before I ever had one. I never expected her to be joining this sad little club, I feel so bad. I hope she's going to take my advice and go see her Dr. and not waste a ton of time. I'd hate for her to wind up like me, turning 34 next week and no baby in sight.

Re: For those with an IF diagnosis...........

I am sorry you and your sister are both facing this tough road. You still have plenty of time. My paternal grandmother had a child @ 25 then went infertile for 8 years then had 3 right in a row in her 30's. She also had a surprise @ 42. My mother had perfect, flawless fertility. My sister has whacked out cycles but her and her partner are choosing not to have kids. My maternal grandmother had miscarriages. Trust me I so know how you feel. AI#9 for me next wkend. I am already sad about a BFN and I havent even insemed yet sad  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE hang in there. I have never researched family history infertility, but it sounds like a good idea!!! ****BABYDUST****

Re: For those with an IF diagnosis...........

"Infertility" is such a bad word !!!!

I am the unlucky one in my family too. I was diagnosed with IF at age 18 due to some medical issues and I had to endure 5 surgeries to conceive my first son. (3 through the naval and 2 hip to hip) I ended up with 3 beautiful sons. Now .... 16 years later I want another and due to my past medical history and being advanced maternal age.... well need I say more? Chances are slim. My blood work has come back as favorable for TTC so we shall see. I just came off an approx 8 month dry spell and am just now back on track. I AI'd last Sunday night. If its meant to be then so be it and if not.... I am super lucky to be a mom to the amazing sons that were given to me. smile

Its so frustrating. Uggggg

Good luck to you and dont lose hope. No matter what....keep the faith. smile

Re: For those with an IF diagnosis...........

People in my family, sisters, cousins, aunts, Mom, Grandmothers, even my younger sister who has endometriosis get pregnant without trying.  I thought I would be the same but after many months I was diagnosed with PCOS.  My doctor immesiately recommended a steroid which worked quickly and I conceived on the next cycle.  I never thought that would be the road to my daughter but it was.

I just looked up an old friend on FB.  She was told from about the age of 14 that she would NEVER have children.  I don't remember what the exact diagnosis was though.  Last I heard she had 2 girls and she posted on FB this week that she is having another girl.

Don't get too discouraged for either of you!

Re: For those with an IF diagnosis...........

Just curious, Shanny. What was the steroid?

Re: For those with an IF diagnosis...........

My one sister has recurrent dermoid and other cysts on her ovaries to the point where she only has a portion of one ovary left.  She has no children, but also is in her later 30s and isn't married and has never tried so I don't know if she would have if she had tried.
I also had a hx of a dermoid cyst which caused me to lose my left ovary, but luckily I still conceived easily with my right one.  Supposedly the cysts are not hereditary and all the GYNs thought it was strange that both my sister and I had had them.  Also it is unusual for her to keep getting them again and again.
Other than that no other family probs that I know of.  All the women I know of in my family that have tried for kids had between 1 and 5 kids(my mom had the 5) without much trouble.

Re: For those with an IF diagnosis...........

babyglu - the steroid was dexamethasone (sp?).  It was cheap had little side effects and like I said worked quickly.

Re: For those with an IF diagnosis...........

My mom took 8 years to conceive me (after several miscarriages), so I grew up w/the idea that I would probably have troubles, too!    I recently found out one of my paternal cousins is also having lots of trouble TTC, and recently miscarried:(
