Topic: Potty training

So Zacherious is doing really well with naked potty training time!! Went from several accidents the first day to basically none a few days later. He still has poop accidents but now runs to the potty right when he starts though has not ever actually made it. We try having him sit on the potty for several minutes afterward while we read or something but no luck. His diapers at nap/morning are a lot dryer most of the time which I also thin is a good sign. We put on underwear and play on the porch or go for short walks and make a big deal about being/staying dry which he often does but still has accidents often in them. . vs none at all when he is naked. Any other tips that could make this continue going well. . or does it sound right on track?

Re: Potty training

Sounds like it's going great - just keep him naked!  How old is Z, again?  I know he's over 2 but not sure how many months.

Re: Potty training

Umm, April 30th so almost 27 months. I know there is a huge difference between 2 and 3. He was showing a lot of interest in being dry and wanting diaper changes often so we figured he might be ready. With Riley I had to wait to introduce him longer then I wanted. If he is in underware though he'll go and not say anything. We are working on understanding wet and dry but he still has accidents where if he is naked he hardly ever does and will run to the potty almost each time. . except for going poop. He'll start going and then run.

Re: Potty training

i think he sounds like he's doing really well!  i'd put him in underpants more often so you dont have to completely re-train him with underpants, might as well do it all at once. smile  it sounds like he does well in the underpants as well - a few accidents are to be expected.  keep up the good work!

Re: Potty training

sounds good, is the potty chair close by?  If you only have one in the bathroom, sometimes it's outta sight outta mind.  I had one in the kitchen area (somewhre out of the way).  That way you can have one handy for last min and it's a good reminder for him and you to always be trying to go.  1 thing, don't wait for him to go on his own; after having a drink or eating then you should be trying every 20min or so.

Re: Potty training

Just keep it up. I adopted one of my sons at 2 1/2 years and he showed no signs of being ready so after an initial settling in time I started potty training. I thought we'd never get there. I was just about to give up and try again in 3-6 months. But one day he decided he was going to do it and from that point on never an accident day or night and said goodbye to diapers forever. I've raised or help raise 15 adopted and foster children-the boys are always so much tougher to potty train for some reason. Good Luck!
